What is education to you?

According to a google search, the following term define education…

How close is your definition?

As I travel around to the various schools, I discover that many teachers are thrown into these fantastic new open-plan classrooms with no idea how to function in them.

More and more we are expected to take on new ways of working and yet there is nothing in place to support us in doing this.

I am in the very lucky position of travelling around the country and seeing what works and what clearly doesn’t in these new learning spaces. I have started to embed this into my workshops, facilitating discussions and working through ideas to make these learning spaces exciting places to work.

The approach needs to stretch beyond simply team teaching with a peer that you get along with. The approach needs to be embedded into every aspect of the classroom and school culture. We need to consider the following:

- How will we report?

- How can we maintain good classroom management?

- How do we make sure we differentiate?

- What about those kids who get lost along the way?

- What do we do about the noise level?

These are only some of the questions thrown around. This is purely the starting point for what, for some can be an extremely daunting ask…

Working With Tom March

Posted: April 6, 2011 in Uncategorized

Many of you may know the name – Tom March. Many of you will think WebQuests.

Tom has made a name for himself in the world of technology over the years focusing originally on WebQuests. Tom is now moving forward and working with Web 2.0.

I am in the very privileged position of working with Tom throughout 2011. During the year we will work with a number of schools through an initiative facilitated by Independent School Victoria.

These schools hope to engage their students through the use of Web 2.0 applications and to enhance learning environments and student learning outcomes.

The journey begins today and will continue throughout 2011 and beyond…
